THE CASTLES OF BAVARIA AND THE ROMANTIC ROAD
DAY 1: NEUSCHWANSTEIN AND AUGSBURG
In the early afternoon we arrive in Schwangau and visit Neuschwanstein Castle, an imposing neo-Gothic building dating from 1869, which looks like a fairytale castle (it was the inspiration for Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle). The richly furnished interior rooms are a tribute to the musical genius of Richard Wagner ( “Tannhäuser”, “Lohegrin”, “Tristan and Isolde”, ” The Master-Singers of Nuremberg ” and “Parsifal”), a hymn to Romanticism and Germanic mythology.
DAY 2: AUGSBURG, ROMANTIC ROAD AND NUREMBERG
After breakfast, we meet our guide and set off on a tour of the Romantic Road, the most famous of all German tourist roads, the ancient Via Claudia, an important military trade route of the Roman Empire.
Picturesque historic towns, medieval walled villages, charming alleys, half-timbered houses, Gothic churches… 350 km of pure romanticism through a varied landscape, starting in the wine-growing territory of Franconia, crossed by the Main, and ending near the splendid Alpine peaks. During the full-day tour we will enjoy a typical lunch in a Gasthof.
Accommodation in hotel in Nuremberg, dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 3: NUREMBERG AND BAMBERG
After breakfast, we will meet the guide and take a tour of Bamberg, in Upper Franconia, a precious city of art located in the fertile Regnitz Valley. We will stroll through the historic city centre and visit the Domplatz with its beautiful cathedral, the Hofhaltung, a former imperial residence and the “Klein Venedig” (little Venice), a complex of half-timbered cottages once inhabited by fishermen and their families.
Back to Nuremberg for a typical lunch with a tasty menu.
In the afternoon, we will visit Nuremberg, whose city walls, built in the 14th century, are a powerful defense system unique in Germany. We will continue with the visit of the Hauptmarkt, the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) with ist famou Männleinlaufen, a mechanical clock, the Medieval church of Saint Lawrence.
4° GIORNO: NORIMBERGA – WÜRZBURG – ITALIA
JOUR 4: NUREMBERG, Würzburg AND DEPARTURE
After breakfast we will depart for Würzburg, a typical university town. We will visit the Würzburg Residence, a very important Baroque palace and seat of the prince-bishops of Würzburg.
It has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List sence 1981.
After a typical lunch in a famous Ratskeller we will return home.
